FLD made an unauthorised announcement that they were about to release a defrag program for AFS written by myself. I found this VERY irritating as I do not believe in "vapourware". I wanted to announce the product when it was available. Not a year in advance like FLD do. This incident combined with the stress of negotiating with FLD slowed development. The package will consist of two programs. QDF or Quick DeFrag and FDF or Full DeFrag. QDF should be run regularly to illiminate fragemented files. This is very quick but assumes that sufficient free space is available. When this is not true FDF should be used. This does a full job after which there will be no fragemented files and the free space will be in a single lump.

It should be noted that these tools obey all the AFS atomacy and safety rules. The machine can be turned off while the programs are running. I would not recommend it though !
